Shortly after World War II, Gordon Dykeman, originally from Musquodoboit, operated from his home on May Street in North Sydney. Wilfred “Boots” Boutilier was an adjuster who called on this office with his trademark, “Any new claims today?”, and talk inevitably turned to their shared love of salmon fishing. In 1977, when Mr. Dykeman was ready to retire, he offered to sell the business to Boots who brought Stuart MacLeod in as a partner and Island Insurance was officially part of the MacLeod Lorway team. We moved to Commercial Street circa 1980. The Baddeck office was part of the McKillop & Johnson purchase in 1999.
